These are my baby dreads, they are only 3 weeks old, but this picture was taken the day I finished them(:

Not to shabby for 3 months, methinks! No wax, no crochet needle, just palm rolling and lots of love. It’s a bit fuzzy at the top, but hey. I have to thank this blog for providing me with so much help. So, thank you, Missy!

arizonah: Dreadlocks Almost a month and 2weeks old. Twist N Rip, rubberbands in them, I know I shouldn’t but I’m scared they’ll fall apart, they’re still super fuzy with a ton of loose hair. Is there anything I can do to make them stand out more since my dark hair just makes it look like one big fuzzball?
Nope, just let them be. They are actually distinctly un-fuzzy for their age. As for the rubberbands…first off, your dreads will not “fall apart” without them. That is complete & utter nonsense. They will be free to dread properly, however. I implore you to very seriously consider that even though you “know you shouldn’t” you are using them anyway. That’s quite silly, at best, & I’ll say no more on it.

sellardoor: so this is should be in the “ask” section, but i wanted to attach a photo.
My dreads are almost two months old and they’re holding up wonderfully, they’re taking shape, doing what they need to do but i have one concern…the dreads on the back of my head are separating majorly, splitting into two in some places, and are pulling away from my scalp (about two inches when the rest of my head is about an inch from my scalp). i was wondering if there is anything i can do to get them to tighten up closer to my scalp again. any suggestions or treatments? or am i doing the normal “IM NEW TO DREADS” and freaking out for no reason?
((sorry the picture isn’t that great, crappy webcam))
I’m afraid this photo really doesn’t help me in any way. From what I can make out they look fine, great actually, but I cannot see (& thus have no way to judge) the specific issues you’re asking about.
As for the pulling away, don’t fret that. Different areas of your head will lock up differently from others, & that includes length of roots just as much as tightness. It often sorts itself out later on. 2” roots are nothing to worry about, though, especially at two months old!
As for the splitting…most likely it’s a sectioning issue, but I really need an photo of a “problem” dread specifically. It may be something you can help, or it might be something you should just leave alone & not stress. I just can’t tell you from this.
Maybe see if a friend has a digital camera/decent cellphone cam & can snap a shot of your roots? As clear as possible. Daylight with no flash will let me see detail the best :)

swagpumpsoutmyovaries: like em? i am so lame lol
If by lame you mean beautiful! Great texture. I especially love the big one in the upper right & the squiggly dude on your cheek ♥

Hi, so I just tried your dreadlock deep cleanse recipe, and I am both ecstatic and disgusted by the results. I added apple cider vinegar to the recipe, though. So the picture I’m submitting is what the water looked like after I soaked them. My dreads are ten months old, and I’d never done a deep cleanse before. My bangs and hair were SO SOFT. Thanks so much for this awesome recipe!

mindlessintegrity: Just thought I should drop this off here, I fell in love with them really fast. My babies are made from just backcombing, and I love them! :) They loop a lot, and are SUPER stubborn but they’re calming down. :)

lafcadio-the-lion: I just started my first pair of dreads via. backcombing 10 mins ago. I only did 4 and there on the bottom layer of my hair. I thought I would submit a photo
Wow, those are some big sections! You’re shooting for congos right from the get-go! Not a bad start, but I would try to make them tighter if you can- those look fairly loose. More importantly, get those bands off of them immediately, if not sooner!
