I rocked a single one (named Penelope) behind my ear for a while before I dreaded the entire back of my head, followed shortly after by everything but my bangs/fringe.

They’ll cannibalize surrounding hair, so you’ll be pulling loose hairs out of them on a daily basis. It’s also kind of a pain in the butt washing them sometimes, because they have to dry out completely in between each wash. This means you’re probably washing your loose hair more frequently than your dreads, so they may have to be tied out of the way or wrapped in plastic or some such during your normal shower routine.

So if you’re up to these minor inconveniences, go for it! There’s no reason you can’t have partial dreads.
