Anonymous asked: I have a TnR dread with a 1 1/2 inch squared root section. It's a little smaller than a pencil, and I was wondering if it will fatten up? Is the root section too big? I'm so unsure about it because I have such thin hair and if they're all that size I may only end up with 20 dreads or less.
1.5” is definitely a pretty big section, but not necessarily “too big”. It really depends on the thickness you’re trying to achieve.
Thin hair is thin hair is thin hair. If those sections give you the size you want, but you only have 20 dreads, then 20 dreads is the right number for you! There’s no “wrong” count to have. It’s more important that your dreads aren’t so thin (& therefore weak) that they break off- especially when you’re using such a damaging method, starting yourself off with weaker dreads right out of the gate.
While dreads do tend to thicken slightly with time, as shedded hairs do not fall out, it isn’t usually a huge difference.
