You can give it another shot & try to do it a bit tighter, but if it falls out again just leave it be. It’s totally normal to have several inches of loose ends. They usually lock up more as your dreads mature, & once they get tight enough you can always round/blunt the tips if you prefer. Loose ends on mature dreads are most commonly 1-3”, so 3” on babies is nothing to worry about at all with your length!
