arizonah asked: Two questions about the twist n rip method! 1. Is it true twist n rip vs. backcombing, twist n rip is harder to comb out if you change your mind? and 2. I used twist n rip on most of my dreads and I was wondering when the frizz will die down? :c Thank you so much! I know you get this everyday, but your blog IS SO useful and great. Thank you, lovely ^-^
1. Yes. Twist & rip forces your hair to knot in a very unnatural way & damages the hair a lot. It’s more like a braid than a knot. Combing out is much harder (sometimes it can’t even be done), & you’ll likely have a ton of breakage. That said, after you hair starts growing out, the new growth combs out about as easily as backcombed dreads do. So you can always cut off the T&R sections (you’ll be able to see pretty clearly where you started your dreads & where the new growth starts- it rarely blends) & just comb out what’s left, especially if it’s been a few years ♥
2. Frizz is part of dreads to a certain extent. In general, you see tons of it all down the length of the dread with T&R. Palm rolling can help a bit to encourage some of the individual leggies in, but mostly it’s just time. Some may not go in at all. Consider that many of them are sticking out in the first place because the hair strand was broken using that method.
